About The Position

Volunteers of America Ohio and Indiana is seeking a full-time Food Service Worker to join our valued Crossroads Shelter program. VOAOHIN is dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. As an organization stretching across Ohio and Indiana, we have over 1000 committed and compassionate employees working in multiple impact areas. The (full-time) Food Service Worker will have experience preparing and serving portion-controlled, nutritious meals for our shelter residents. Additional duties will include maintaining cleanliness and managing food inventory to ensure we meet clients' needs. Preferred Food Service Worker applicants will hold a High School diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of food service experience and food handler certification or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment.   • Good communication skills.
  • Must have or obtain Food Service Handler certification within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare regular and therapeutic diets following oral and written instructions, menus, recipes, spreadsheets, etc., with knowledge of kitchen equipment operation.
  • Ensure menus are posted weekly and are approved by a registered dietitian.
  • Maintain daily meal count.
  • Follow the food-ordering process to support the daily menu.
  • Follow approved receiving principles to ensure the safety and quality of the food used in operation.
  • Maintain inventory control of food items.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and cafeteria area per health codes; ensure daily, and weekly cleaning procedures and schedules are followed.
  • Maintain a daily temperature log on all equipment, reporting to the Lead Maintenance Worker (or appropriate supervisor) any time kitchen equipment is not working correctly.
  • Prepare and store food as outlined in the Operation’s Manual; ensure all health and safety procedures are followed.
