About The Position

The Food Service Worker (Wage) at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) will assist with the preparation and serving of meals, cleaning the dining and kitchen areas, washing dishes, receiving food orders and putting stock in correct storage places. Assist with record keeping. The Food Service Worker (Wage) is to provide healthy, safe and sanitary meals for the students and staff of the school, with friendly customer service.

Requirements

  • General Knowledge of health regulations
  • Skill in food preparation
  • Knowledge of institutional food equipment and cleaning supplies
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Novice level of ASL as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing.
  • Ability to tolerate various chemicals and varied temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in food service.
