About The Position

Prepares and serves all food items including food for special diets and special events. Responsible for following regulatory requirements. Assists with coordination of food service activities. This job profile reflects management’s assignment of current essential functions; it does not prescribe all or restrict the tasks that may be assigned now or in the future relevant to primary job responsibilities for the Food Service Specialist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification by County Board of Health required.
  • 1 year experience in food preparation required.
  • Valid driver’s license must be maintained.
  • Continuously requires walking, standing, and repetitive wrist/hand movement (3/4 - 4/4 pf the work day)
  • Often requires stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds (1/4 - 1/2 of the work day).
  • Regularly requires pushing/pulling (1/2 - 3/4 of the workday).
  • Seldom requires sitting (0 - 1/4 of the workday).
  • Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate with co-workers and stakeholders in person and via telephone.
  • Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, or other chemical substances or controlled substances.
  • Seldom drives a Devereux vehicle or van.
  • Continuously works inside in areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated.
  • Some fluctuation in temperature.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves all food items including food for special diets and special events.
  • Responsible for following regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with coordination of food service activities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement, develop, and manage a variety of services, including financial, food, human resources, information, and transportation services.
  • Ensures all services are delivered with a focus on quality, cost-effectiveness, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement.
  • Applies corrective actions as needed and incorporates best practices and innovative approaches to service delivery.
  • Maintains strict adherence to all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing kitchen utensils, equipment, and all food service areas, including serving lines, storage spaces, and dining areas.
  • Supports a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff by maintaining high sanitation standards and ensuring compliance with nutritional guidelines established by the USDA and Bureau of Child Nutrition.
