About The Position

The Food Service Lead/Cook is responsible to assist in menu planning, staff training and in maintaining a clean kitchen according to health regulations. He or she must be prepared to meet the spiritual needs of guests and staff. This role is part of a mission-driven, faith-based organization dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of youth and families. The organization offers a unique opportunity for year-round camping ministries dedicated to the glory of God, with a focus on creating memorable experiences and fostering spiritual growth within a supportive Christian community.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Evidenced commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to share the Gospel with others.
  • Must be able to live in Hume Lake housing.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks and work outdoors or indoors as needed.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work under supervision.
  • Must agree with and support Hume Christian Camps’ Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
  • Must have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to share the Gospel through word and deed.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with guests and staff.
  • Has a culinary degree or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of cooking terminology and ingredients, qualities of food, beverages and supplies.
  • Can determine degrees of doneness in cooked foods and able to use equipment pertaining to the job.
  • Has leadership experience or knowledge of supervisory practices.
  • Has a teachable attitude; a willingness to learn and adapt to Hume's approach to Food Service.
  • Must have a high degree of flexibility to meet the ever changing needs within the organization.
  • Has, or is able to procure, Servesafe Manager Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in menu planning.
  • Assist in staff training.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen according to health regulations.
  • Meet the spiritual needs of guests and staff.
  • Oversee the kitchen in the absence of the Food Service Manager.
  • Assign kitchen duties to personnel.
  • Be hands-on in all aspects of food preparation, serving and internal workings of the kitchen.
  • Provide high-quality food for guests and staff in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a sanitary kitchen and follow opening and closing procedures.
  • Encourage garnishing and other visual enhancements.
  • Maintain an awareness of products being used, waste and prep numbers.
  • Supervise the training of food service employees in all aspects of their jobs, including training them to train their summer and/or weekend help.
  • Supervise and lead a team of Summer staff during the summer.
  • Supervise and lead Joshua students and weekend workers on weekends during the year.
  • Provide avenues of encouragement, camaraderie, and deepening relationships with staff.
  • Handle departmental conflicts and remedial action appropriately and report conflict to supervision.
  • Report maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required. Hume maintains the right to reassign or change duties as needed.
