About The Position

The Food Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the middle school food service program. This position ensures the preparation and service of nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe, clean, and efficient environment while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local health and nutrition regulations. The Food Service Manager supervises cafeteria staff, manages inventory and food ordering, maintains accurate records, and promotes positive customer service for students, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in food service operations, school nutrition programs, or cafeteria management preferred
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation procedures, and nutrition guidelines
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment and point-of-sale systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or coursework in food service management, nutrition, or related field preferred
  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily food preparation and meal service operations
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served according to established nutrition standards and portion requirements
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate food service staff to ensure efficient operations and positive teamwork
  • Maintain compliance with health department regulations, sanitation standards, and food safety procedures
  • Monitor food quality, temperature controls, cleanliness, and kitchen safety practices
  • Manage food and supply inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating stock
  • Maintain accurate production records, inventory reports, meal counts, and other required documentation
  • Operate and oversee point-of-sale and cash handling procedures as required
  • Assist in menu implementation and accommodate approved dietary restrictions or special meal requests
  • Promote positive customer service and maintain professional interactions with students, staff, and families
  • Coordinate with school administration and district food service personnel regarding operational needs
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service or school administration
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service
