About The Position

This position plays an important role in advancing our mission and supporting the communities we serve. The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and packaging all meals in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining high standards of quality. This position also ensures that all kitchen and food prep areas are cleaned and sanitized daily.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year working as a cook in a food service kitchen.
  • Serve Safe Certified is preferred, the ability to acquire certification within one year of hire is required.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in institutional (large scale) meal planning and preparation preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a call center.
  • Minimum six (6) months to 1 year experience in customer facing in person interactions required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and portion ingredients prior to cooking, including washing, cutting, and marinating according to all applicable guidelines.
  • Follow recipes and ensure consistent quality.
  • Collaborates with the Food Service Manager, modifies preparation and/or daily menu to accommodate the needs of clients.
  • Assist in inventory control by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages to the Food Service Manager.
  • Completes monthly food and non-food inventories, restocking as needed.
  • Maintains accurate food service records.
  • Adheres to all funder and regulator policies including, but not limited to, USDA, Department of Health, etc.
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning practices.
  • Adheres to Department of Health guidelines for sanitation of surfaces, storage units, appliances, and appropriate personal attire.
  • Cleans refrigerator and freezer according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Cleans/polishes stove, counters, and appliances daily.
  • Properly labels and stores perishable and nonperishable food items.
  • Sweeps and mops floor daily; mops spills as they occur.
  • Participate in agency self-assessments, funder reviews, and required monitoring.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
