About The Position

The Food Service Clerk is responsible for managing diet orders, patient meal orders, and serving as a liaison between patients and various departments. This role involves utilizing the facility's electronic medical record and Nutrition & Food Services computer system to ensure accurate patient information and meal delivery. The clerk will interact directly with patients to take meal orders, assist with menu selections based on dietary restrictions, and communicate any special requests or concerns to the appropriate staff, including dietitians and kitchen personnel. A key aspect of this role is providing excellent customer service to all individuals encountered.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Demonstrates ability to speak English clearly.
  • Demonstrates Basic computer skills.
  • Basic math skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of nutrition module with successful passage of the nutrition module exam, within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Receives diet orders from the facility’s electronic medical record, confirms patient’s name, room number and diet order upon receipt and verifies information has interfaced correctly with the Nutrition & Food Services computer system.
  • Manually enters ER patients and diet orders into the Nutrition & Food Services computer system. Removes ER discharged patients and diet orders from the Nutrition & Food Services computer system.
  • Answers phone calls, identifies patients using two identifiers, informs patients of their current diet order, and takes meal orders, assisting with menu selection and dietary restrictions.
  • Visits patients designated as Room Service Assist to obtain necessary meal orders.
  • Manually enters meal orders for all patients designated as “non-select” for all 3 meals with correct ready-at-times.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, clinical staff, dietitian and/or food service personnel regarding special requests or feedback obtained from patients.
  • Informs Dietitian of patient meal orders that may result in altered nutritional status.
  • Informs cooks and kitchen staff of any special room service orders.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.
