About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a part-time, evening position with scheduled weekly hours of 16. The Food Service Assistant is responsible for various duties including monitoring and recording proper food temperatures, setting up and maintaining a clean serving area, preparing and serving food, restocking food areas, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, and processing payments using a computerized register. The role requires compliance with HACCP guidelines, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining quality control standards. The position may involve operating various kitchen equipment and requires an understanding of food safety and sanitation. The ability to stand and walk for extended periods is necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • On-the-job training will be provided
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required depending upon location requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Retail counting and reconciliation of money
  • Knowledge of food service
  • Experience working in the food industry
  • Ability to work independently when necessary
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation processes
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances
  • Serv Safe may be required to obtain within a designated time frame

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and recording proper temperature of food
  • Setting up and maintaining a clean and sanitized serving area
  • Preparing and serving food items
  • Restocking food areas
  • Cleaning and sanitizing equipment
  • Receiving payment for food and beverages using a computerized register
  • Complies with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service
  • Provides outstanding customer service and effectively communicates with patrons and co-workers
  • Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships
  • Maintains quality control standards
  • Operate equipment such as, but not limited to, grills, beverage machines, toasters, ice cream dispensers, cash registers, computerized cash registers, steam equipment, dishwashers, telephones, refrigerators and freezers
