About The Position

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for engaging with residents, serving meals in the dining room, and delivering room trays. This role involves monitoring and recording food temperatures, setting up and maintaining a clean serving area, restocking food supplies, and cleaning and sanitizing equipment. Additionally, the assistant prepares menu items, snacks, and supplements according to physician's orders and regulations. Responsibilities include clearing tables, washing dishes, emptying trash, and ensuring residents have a pleasant dining experience while maintaining their dignity and privacy. The position also requires observing and documenting food and fluid intake, reporting any changes in resident condition, accurately using the electronic medical record (EMR), checking equipment, and operating kitchen equipment safely. Adherence to infection control policies, OSHA, FDA, and CMS guidelines is mandatory. The role also involves completing assigned trainings and attending department meetings. The Food Service Assistant must be able to work independently and possess an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. The ability to remain on feet and walk for the majority of the day is essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Retail counting and reconciliation of money.
  • Knowledge of food service.
  • Serv Safe certification (may be required to obtain within a designated time frame depending upon location of hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (may be required depending upon location requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Engage with residents and serve meals in the dining room.
  • Deliver room trays to residents.
  • Monitor and record proper temperature of food.
  • Set up and maintain a clean and sanitized serving area.
  • Restock food areas.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment.
  • Assist with preparing menu items, snacks, and supplements following physician’s orders, standards, and regulations.
  • Clear tables, sanitize equipment and tables.
  • Perform other cleaning duties as assigned in the dining area and kitchen/work area.
  • Wash, dry, and restock dishes, pots, and pans.
  • Empty trash as assigned.
  • Interact with elderly residents and assist in making sure they have a pleasant dining experience.
  • Maintain residents’ dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of personal information.
  • Provide residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plans.
  • Observe, measure, and document food and fluid intakes as assigned.
  • Receive and share information; observe and report any resident change in condition to management.
  • Use EMR (electronic medical record) accurately.
  • Check equipment before use and notify management or maintenance staff of any issues.
  • Operate dishwashing and kitchen equipment safely.
  • Follow location infection control policies and procedures, OSHA, and FDA, and CMS guidelines that apply to serving food, assisting residents, and cleaning.
  • Complete all necessary in-person and electronic trainings that are assigned in a timely manner.
  • Attend required department meetings.
  • Comply with all related laws, regulations, company policies and procedures pertaining to his or her position.
  • Work independently when necessary.
  • Demonstrate ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walking the unit delivering room trays.
