About The Position

The FSQA Manager will be responsible for maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems for 2 NORPEL sites in the New Bedford, MA area. The FSQA Manager will promote customer satisfaction and ensure compliance with FDA and USDC regulations as well as adherence to the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and develop programs to achieve Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Standards by 2030. Key emphasis on the management of facilities quality, food safety, AAFCO, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP/HARPC, and customer complaint resolution.

Requirements

  • Multi-site management experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required (bi-lingual in Spanish preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience writing and managing food safety plans.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the food industry required, seafood processing experience preferred.
  • HACCP certified, seafood HACCP preferred.
  • SQF Practitioner or GFSI experience is a plus.
  • PCQI certified or willing to become certified within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all activities related to food safety, product quality, HACCP/HARPC systems, government regulatory compliance (including FDA, APHIS, USDC), internal and external inspection criteria, and customer complaint investigation and response.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the quality and food safety system, including (but not limited to) FSMA compliance, food safety plans, food quality plans, and trend analysis.
  • Ensure that the integrity of the food safety, quality, and regulatory system is maintained at all times.
  • Reviews paperwork for accuracy and verification, as well as trends and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Works with management and other required personnel in formulating, establishing, and enforcing corporate policies, procedures, and objectives related to the Quality and Food Safety systems.
  • Responsible for the review and comprehension of technical and regulatory publications, articles, and abstracts to stay current with all technical and regulatory developments in the industry.
  • Perform audits of manufacturing and warehouse locations at the facility, along with food defense.
  • Responsible for the successful completion of all customer or regulatory food safety and quality audits.
  • Maintain, review, and develop effective HACCP/HARPC, GMP, and GFSI programs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of an effective sanitation and environmental monitoring program.
  • Responsible for overseeing the inspection of raw materials/COAs and finished products documentation to ensure they meet specified standards, as well as reviewing their handling and processing for compliance with company standards.
  • Development and training of personnel in all food safety, quality and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain certification and paperwork for FDA, USDCAPHIS, GFSI, and state regulatory bodies.
  • Other special projects and duties assigned by the Head of FSQA.
  • Participate in new hire interviews and onboarding as needed.
  • Oversee the Quality team schedule to ensure continuous coverage over day and night shift (24/5 with weekends as needed).
  • Oversee the Quality Calendar and ensure all team training and tasks are completed on time, such as Safety training, FSQA training, annual calibrations/certifications, and preventative maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with other departments, such as Maintenance, Operations, Housekeeping, HR, and Safety.
  • Be fully present in the facilities every day to support the team, observe training opportunities, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor production data for all MA facilities to ensure product is within customer specifications, and effectively communicate deviations and recommended corrective actions.
