Food Safety Quality and Regulatory Lab Technician I
About The Position
This full-time position is based in Dodge City, Kansas, in Cargill’s protein and salt business. The technician collects product, environmental, and process samples and performs laboratory analyses to support food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs. The role also includes equipment calibration and verification, routine monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting findings, deviations, and corrective actions. The technician works with production, sanitation, and food safety teams to communicate results, identify concerns, and support continuous improvement. Work takes place in a fast-paced production environment that may involve wet conditions, slippery surfaces, varying temperatures, and moving equipment. The position is on the second shift, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and may require overtime, weekends, and holidays as requested. Relocation reimbursement is not included.
Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to read, write, and speak English.
- Basic math and computer skills, including the ability to accurately record data and maintain documentation.
- Ability to follow detailed laboratory, food safety, quality, and regulatory procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production and operations teams.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice To Haves
- Previous laboratory, food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, or regulatory experience.
- Experience collecting samples, conducting testing, performing calibrations, or maintaining laboratory documentation.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, USDA-FSIS regulations, or food safety and quality systems.
- Experience in a meat, poultry, food processing, or manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
- Consistent work history within the last 12 months.
Responsibilities
- Collect product, environmental, and process samples and perform laboratory analyses to support food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Conduct equipment calibrations, verification activities, and routine monitoring to ensure accurate test results and adherence to established procedures.
- Complete documentation and maintain records using computer systems and manual processes; accurately report findings, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Partner with production, sanitation, and food safety teams to identify concerns, communicate results, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform duties in a fast-paced production environment, following required PPE guidelines.
- Follow safety, food safety, quality, and regulatory policies and procedures while working independently and maintaining attention to detail.
- Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
