About The Position

This is a seasonal position located on-site at the Modesto Cannery and Administrative Office. As a Food Safety Intern/Clerk, you will have the opportunity to learn about various monitoring processes that ensure food safety and product quality. You will work with the Food Safety Compliance & Audit Director to gain a comprehensive understanding of the department’s functions. During the fresh pack season, you will be expected to work at least 6 days a week and be available to work overtime as needed to support our Cannery operations. You must also be available to work varying shifts, including weekends as required. Our fresh pack season runs from Mid-July through the end of September but could extend.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year college/university.
  • Proficient on computers, and Microsoft specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organization skills and legible handwriting.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet outlined timeframes for monitoring checks.
  • Ability to learn how to place non-conforming products or equipment on hold.
  • Able to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to rotate into various departments with varying Quality Assurance related job duties as needed.
  • Reliable in attendance for work daily and ready to work on-time to perform the duties of the position.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; moderate stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity.
  • Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 50% or less sitting, 25% or more walking, and 50% or more standing.
  • The job is performed under frequent temperature variations and in a cannery environment.
  • Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees.
  • The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required.

Responsibilities

  • Working under Quality Assurance management guidance to ensure compliance.
  • Inspecting and studying product to monitor and develop centerlines.
  • Monitoring the production process and perform routine food safety and quality assurance (FSQA), and/or quality assurance checks in accordance with the food safety and quality programs at the manufacturing site.
  • Ensuring the process is in control and the product meets the standards set by the Company.
  • Learning to ensure compliance with food safety systems through monitoring processes and documentation.
  • Learning to ensure compliance with QA process controls through monitoring and documentation.
  • Monitoring processes and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Quality improvement projects and studies in the direction of quality assurance management.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
