About The Position

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Technician role is structured in three tiers, with increasing responsibilities and leadership expectations. Tier 1 focuses on building relationships, representing FSQA in meetings, promoting a positive food safety culture, and ensuring employee and food safety compliance. Tier 2 builds upon Tier 1, requiring specific certifications like PCQI and HACCP, and involves more in-depth compliance tasks, training, and laboratory liaison. Tier 3 involves advanced responsibilities such as suggesting procedural changes, mentoring, leading external audits, managing R&D trials, and preparing comprehensive reports.

Responsibilities

  • Represents FSQA at Daily Operations Meetings.
  • Attends Food Safety Team Meetings.
  • Provides general coaching and feedback to improve Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Reports all GMP violations to management to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Works with site management to ensure sanitation team is trained and provides feedback on sanitation compliance.
  • Communicates Food Safety Concerns to Department Leadership.
  • Assists in root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Implements Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly environmental monitoring programs.
  • Performs in process, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly quality assurance tasks.
  • Assists with maintenance of records, retention, and storage/destruction of company documents.
  • Conducts quarterly internal audits.
  • Works closely with the FSQA Manager to maintain consistent food safety and quality programs across all sites.
  • Communicates consumer complaints to the facility leadership team, and works together to find root cause, perform retraining as needed, and implement corrective actions.
  • Receive and maintains certificate for PCQI, HACCP (if applicable), and Produce Safety Rule Training.
  • Recognize and share positive employee compliance with food safety or quality assurance processes and share with Facility management or in daily meeting.
  • Performs monthly Lettuce learn training with all facility employees (including facility management).
  • Assists with training operations employees in food safety and quality assurance procedures and policies.
  • Performs regular GMP audits and report & recommends remedial actions to address GMP violations.
  • Upkeep of facility signage/SOPs/RECS to ensure new GMP policies, guides, and facility processes are available and clear to all employees.
  • Performs PCQI checks and paperwork review/sign offs.
  • Liaison with third-party laboratories to ensure all sampling is completed as expected.
  • Works closely with the facility management to resolve all internal audit findings in a timely manner and document accordingly.
  • Maintains and orders adequate amount of testing supplies (as well as chemical & sanitation inventory as prompted by location).
  • Using data, suggest procedural changes to improve food safety or product quality.
  • Serves as a mentor to coach and develop sanitation and food safety champions at the site.
  • Leads the preparation for annual external third-party audits.
  • Liaison with external pest control company to ensure pest control program is meeting expectations.
  • Supports unannounced government inspections.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly reports based on deadlines – utilizes MSOffice, Excel, Word, PPT, etc.
  • Leads R&D trials and compiles creates reports on the trial results.
  • Manage FSQA KPI dashboards or tracking sheets.
  • Assist in creation & updates of assigned documentation.
  • Annual review of facility HACCP documents and provide feedback to FSQA Manager.
