About The Position

The Food Runner position is responsible for running food and beverage items to customers in a friendly, enthusiastic, professional, and timely manner. This role acts as a key point of contact between Front of House and Back of House staff, ensuring efficient communication and accurate delivery of orders, including attention to special requests like food allergies. The position also involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dining areas and service equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware.
  • Ability to describe all menu items, prices, and methods of preparation.
  • Ability to use suggestive selling techniques to encourage guests to choose house specialties.
  • Must be minimum age to serve alcohol.
  • Experience as a F&B Food Runner or similar entry-level role in a restaurant.
  • Understanding of hygiene and food safety rules.
  • Physical ability and stamina to carry heavy trays and stand for long hours.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends.
  • Multi-tasking abilities.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced work environment.
  • One to two (1-2) years of food runner experience in a full-service restaurant or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government-required licenses, certificates, or permits.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the restaurant/hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. frequently.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the restaurant/hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Run food and beverage orders to tables for customers, utilizing suggestive selling techniques.
  • Clear tables during service.
  • Ensure station and table set-ups are complete.
  • Perform various side duties as assigned by the server.
  • Maintain proper condition and cleanliness of dining areas and servicing equipment.
  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately.
  • Act as the point of contact between Front of House and Back of House staff.
  • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities such as food allergies.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary and assigned.
