About The Position

Black Briar is a Bold American Tavern opening in Chicago’s West Loop, featuring an open coal grill, a raw bar, and instinctive hospitality. We are seeking a Food Runner / Server Assistant who is purposeful, knowledgeable about the menu, and ensures efficient service by keeping the floor running smoothly, ensuring plates are delivered hot and tables are well-maintained. This role is crucial for maintaining the high standards of the restaurant.

Requirements

Prior restaurant experience preferred; full-service experience is a plus.
Speed, awareness, and a genuine team-first instinct.
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, well-set floor.
Physically able to stand, move, and carry trays throughout a shift.
Reliable, punctual, and ready to work.
Illinois Food Handler certification required, or obtained before start date.
BASSET certification if serving alcohol.

Responsibilities

Running food from the pass to the table, ensuring accuracy, temperature, and correct guest delivery.
Knowing the menu and plate presentations to run and describe dishes.
Supporting servers with drink runs, clearing plates, crumbing tables, resetting tables, and refilling water.
Observing the dining room and proactively assisting where needed.
Maintaining cleanliness of tables, stations, and service areas throughout service.
Communicating table needs and timing to servers and management.
Resetting and re-laying tables efficiently between seatings.
Completing side work and opening/closing procedures to standard.
