About The Position

Scala Osteria is seeking a Food Runner / Expeditor who plays a key role in connecting the kitchen and dining room. This position helps ensure that every dish is presented accurately, communicated effectively, and delivered promptly to guests. Depending on the needs of service, team members may work primarily as a Food Runner, primarily in the Expeditor position, or move between both roles. Success in this position requires strong communication, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to maintain urgency and accuracy during high-volume service. Successful candidates take pride in teamwork, hospitality, and helping create a smooth and efficient guest experience from the kitchen pass to the dining room table.

  • Minimum one (1) year of Food Runner, Expeditor, Server Assistant, or comparable front-of-house support experience in a full-service, upscale, high-volume restaurant environment
  • Demonstrated ability to follow food safety, allergy, and dietary restriction procedures with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food order accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities during busy service periods
  • Ability to safely carry multiple plates and food items while maintaining presentation standards
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Commitment to workplace standards and expectations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience expediting service in a high-volume restaurant
  • Familiarity with restaurant POS systems and Kitchen Display Systems (KDS)
  • Experience supporting upscale dining service, multi-course meal service, or tasting menu service
  • Experience with tableside service techniques, French service, seafood presentations, or similar hospitality-focused service standards
  • Familiarity with seafood-focused menus, Italian cuisine, or similar dining environments

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and communicate food orders between the kitchen and dining room
  • Verify plate presentation, modifications, allergies, and table assignments before food leaves the kitchen
  • Expedite food during service to support accuracy, timing, and service flow
  • Deliver food promptly and professionally to guests
  • Support proper pacing and coordination of multi-course dining experiences
  • Communicate effectively with servers, bartenders, cooks, managers, and support staff
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of expo, service, and staging areas
  • Assist with stocking, sidework, and service preparation tasks
  • Help ensure quality, consistency, and guest satisfaction throughout service
