About The Position

This position is responsible for the collection and distribution of food for the Food Rescue program on TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS 6:15am - 2:15pm (16 hours per week). The role involves driving and operating Food Rescue trucks, collecting and delivering donated food to pantries and partner agencies, and representing Food Rescue and Goodwill Northern Michigan to donors and agencies. The driver will maintain Food Rescue vehicles, adhere to policies and procedures, comply with Michigan seasonal weight restrictions, enter daily poundage records, build relationships with donors and agencies, operate equipment like pallet jacks and scales, ensure a clean working environment, communicate with the Food Rescue Director, train and lead volunteer riders, assist in training new drivers, and maintain excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Have or ability to obtain Valid Michigan Driver’s License with safe, clean driving record.
  • Have or ability to obtain Chauffeur License or CDL.
  • Have or ability to obtain DOT Medical Certification
  • Familiarity with community donation sites and agencies.
  • Knowledge of maps of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Antrim and Benzie counties.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities or who are disadvantaged.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Self-starter, personally motivated and dependable.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and knowledge of basic math.
  • Routinely sits, stands, and walks throughout the workday.
  • Routinely bends, stoops, and stretches throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Drives and operates Food Rescue trucks.
  • Collects and delivers donated food to pantries and partner agencies.
  • Represent Food Rescue and Goodwill Northern Michigan to donors and agencies.
  • Maintain Food Rescue vehicles and refrigeration in clean, good running condition.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as established in the Goodwill Manual.
  • Comply with Michigan seasonal weight restrictions ("frost laws") and adjust routes or loads as required during thaw periods to protect roadways and ensure legal operation.
  • Enters daily poundage records into Food Rescue Database.
  • Builds and manages relationships with food donors and agency partners.
  • Operates Food Rescue equipment such as pallet jack, liftgate, and digital scale.
  • Ensure a clean working environment that complies with the local Health Department and other agencies.
  • Communicate regularly with Food Rescue Director to ensure good service
  • Trains and leads volunteer riders to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Assists in the training of new drivers
  • Maintains great customer service internally and externally.
  • Adhere to all Goodwill Northern Michigan policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
