About The Position

Provides support to Senior Director of Food Rescue and works collaboratively with internal departments, food donors, partner agencies, and volunteers to maximize food recovery and support the organization’s mission of reducing hunger and food waste. Also supervises and assists with the receiving, processing, and safe storage of all food donations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required
  • Three years of relevant experience required
  • One to two years supervisory experience required
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Must pass drug screen and background check.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to give clear directions
  • Ability to build, encourage and empower teams
  • Self-motivated; able to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Highly organized, with excellent time management and scheduling skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with the Second Helpings Hunger Relief program a plus
  • ServSafe Manager Certification required within three months of job acceptance
  • Professional knowledge of food service management principles and practices, and health and safety standards; experience in training or teaching and /or bulk food distribution are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Food Rescue team, including training and evaluation. Participate in recruiting and hiring and training team members. Collaborate with the Senior Director of Food Rescue regarding employee succession planning and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining a usable inventory of rescued food. Manage food rescue drivers and/or volunteers to ensure safe transportation and food safety practices.
  • Help plan and coordinate new donor onboarding and best practices.
  • Act as department lead staff person for Food Rescue operations in the absence of Senior Director of Food Rescue.
  • Supervise and participate in routine cleaning and maintenance of fleet and equipment.
  • Monitor current inventory and identify critical donation needs in collaboration with logistics team.
  • Cover any open Food Rescue routes when team members are on scheduled paid time off and/or when unscheduled donations arise.
  • Maintain ServSafe Manager certifications. Schedule and allot time for new hires to take ServSafe exam and current staff to recertify.
  • Maintain Food Rescue procedures for relevance and accuracy. Notify kitchen and warehouse staff and volunteers of any appropriate changes or updates when large scale donations arise.
  • Participate, as needed, with appropriate departments or parties in Second Helpings fundraising or celebratory events.
  • Assist and collaborate in other areas as requested and as time permits.
  • Communicate daily with Hub Manager regarding expected food donations, transportation schedules, and warehouse capacity.
  • Collaborate with Hub Manager to troubleshoot delivery delays, product quality concerns, and last-minute scheduling changes.
