About The Position

The Food Prep position is responsible for preparing and serving quality food and beverages, maintaining food preparation areas and display cases, and providing courteous customer service. The role also supports food merchandising and inventory activities, including receiving and verifying deliveries, ordering merchandise, pricing and stocking items, rotating food, and preparing displays. The employee maintains a clean, safe facility and food-service equipment, assists with training new associates when needed, and contributes to team operations with minimal supervision.

The position is based at Store 2741027 in San Antonio, Texas. Work is approximately 95% indoors, with some outdoor duties such as cleaning parking lots and gas pumps and taking out garbage. The role may involve cold or warm temperature extremes, occasional noise, working alone, and occasional work in a walk-in cooler or freezer. The schedule is for days, with weekday and weekend availability required; job-related meetings may require irregular hours.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work as scheduled, including arriving at work on time.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others understand.
• Ability to perform essential duties and physical functions and work in the described conditions.
• Ability to be exposed to cold or warm temperature extremes, including occasional work in a walk-in cooler or freezer and outdoors.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead and up to 50 pounds from ground to waist.
• Ability to grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands throughout the shift, requiring eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to push or pull with arms using up to 20 pounds of force.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend and twist at the waist, stoop, kneel, squat, push, and pull.
• Ability to communicate orally and operate a cash register and/or computer keyboard.
• Ability to work alone and stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• Ability to tolerate occasional noise.
• May be required to climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials or place or remove signs.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in retail sales preferred.
• Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure grocery deliveries are accurate, stocked, attractively displayed, and correctly priced in accordance with company guidelines.
• Complete build-to’s for ordering or purchasing merchandise.
• Check in deliveries, price items, stock merchandise according to schematic, verify invoices, review discrepancies with the Store Manager, and bring outdated merchandise to the Store Manager for review.
• Assemble, date, and price-mark in-store displays.
• Rotate food items and monitor quality and freshness to protect customers from illness.
• Monitor and maintain food preparation areas and display cases.
• Organize and monitor inventory to help prevent items from being out of stock.
• Assist with training new associates when necessary, emphasizing excellent customer service.
• Provide prompt, courteous, friendly, and attentive customer service; greet customers and thank them as they leave.
• Resolve or assist with routine customer concerns within established guidelines.
• Prepare and serve quality food and beverages to meet customer needs.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Sweep and mop or otherwise clean floors; dust or wash windows, counters, displays, store areas, and bathrooms; and pick up and dispose of trash, litter, or debris.
• Inspect store facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper working order.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain food-service equipment.
• Attend job-related meetings, which may require irregular hours.
• Maintain intradepartmental workflow by fostering cooperation and contribute to team efforts by completing related tasks.
• Comply with company policies and procedures; report to work on time and follow the dress and appearance code.
• Perform duties with minimal supervision and perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
• Clean parking lots and gas pumps and take out garbage as needed.
