About The Position

The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) is the oldest military support organization in the U.S. and a top-rated military nonprofit dedicated to "Strengthening Our Military Family" since 1861. Through its 12 branches and 23 affiliate partners, ASYMCA serves 87 military installations and facilities nationwide, providing hands-on, innovative, and specialized programs and support services to military service members and their families at no or low cost. This specific role is for the Virginia Beach branch. The Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Patriot's Pantry, including sorting, stocking, and purchasing food, overseeing volunteers, managing food distribution, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing a budget, finding good deals, and ensuring the pantry is stocked with healthy food for those in need. This is a part-time position (approximately 25-30 hours per week) with some flexibility in daily scheduling, typically Monday through Friday. It's a great opportunity for a retiree or military spouse passionate about making a difference in the lives of military families.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess solid organization and planning skills.
  • Be proficient in multi-tasking.
  • Must be able to function in various work environments and work with multiple internal departments and external donors and organizations.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and prioritize work assignments with minimal guidance.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Desire to work on a team and have a CAN-DO attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with military lifestyles/military community is appreciated but not necessary.
  • Base access a plus.
  • Work experience with a non-profit organization is a plus but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the delivery of exceptional customer service to pantry patrons.
  • Sort items received through donations.
  • Oversight of a monthly mobile food drop on a military installation.
  • Solicits and provides direction to volunteers.
  • Performs computer duties related to tracking donations, patron metrics, etc.
  • Ensures that the pantry is clean and stocked as needed.
  • Handles pick up and purchase of food for the pantry.
  • Assist with social media presence and other public relations initiatives.
  • Oversight of the food subsidy program which encourages more nutritious meals and snacks in child care facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support food insecurity programs at the branch.
