A Day in the Life as a Food Pantry Assistant: As a Food Pantry Assistant, you’ll serve as a member of the Area Resource Center team and will be responsible for supporting the needs of a busy food pantry. Responsibilities include organizing, stocking, and distributing food to customers. The position also assists with food donations from various sources. Your day will involve: Managing the food pantry in your Area Center, including preparing and distributing food to community members. Maintaining organization of the food pantry, including stocking shelves, organizing inventory, as well as unloading and putting away food from USDA and other donations. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Assists in general office functions related to the food pantry, which may include paperwork, filing, cleaning, and other duties as needed. Your role will directly contribute to a positive participant experience and the overall success of the Area Resource Center.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency credential.
  • Skills: Good communication and customer service skills. General office skills.
  • License/Certification: Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Characteristics: Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM. A strong desire to assist others in helping themselves.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required, as some travel within the community may be necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: Experience working or volunteering in a food pantry is preferred but not required.
