About The Position

This role is for an exceptional Food Department Manager to join Meijer, with opportunities within East and West Grand Rapids. The Department Manager is responsible for overall team member engagement, driving recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, development, and succession planning. They will direct Leads and Team Leaders, while being accountable for area operations and financials (shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling & forecasting staffing needs, and team member and customer conflict resolution). The Department Manager will work to identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of the Meijer culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
  • A strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with team members to ensure they are receiving appropriate onboarding, training and development, and coaching and feedback.
  • Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support overall store staffing and ensure a diversified talent pipeline strategy.
  • Involvement in candid discussions with team members to ensure Meijer standards are upheld and team members have the ability to grow within the organization.
  • Accountability for area operations and financial results by overseeing the execution of corporate plans to ensure all services and products are effectively managed to maximize sales and productivity, ultimately owning budget line items in the P&L.
  • Drives safety and compliance throughout the store, in addition to overall condition management and responsibility for following all compliance procedures.
  • Ensures the Team Leaders and Leads are providing guidance and assigning daily work assignments for team members, as well as any training needs.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or required.
