About The Position

This role is for an exceptional Food Department Manager to join Meijer, with opportunities within East and West Grand Rapids. The Department Manager is responsible for overall team member engagement, driving recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, development, and succession planning. The leader will direct Leads and Team Leaders, while being accountable for area operations and financials, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling, staffing, and conflict resolution. The role involves identifying and implementing process improvements and serving as a steward of the Meijer culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members to provide clear and precise direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
  • Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
  • A thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs and gain sales and market share.
  • A strong business acumen.
  • An innovative attitude to help Meijer set the industry standard.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all team members and vendors feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with team members to ensure they receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
  • Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support store staffing and ensure a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
  • Conducts discussions with team members to ensure Meijer standards are upheld and team members have opportunities for growth.
  • Oversees area operations and financial results by executing corporate plans to maximize sales and productivity, managing budget line items in the P&L.
  • Drives safety and compliance throughout the store, manages overall condition, and follows all compliance procedures.
  • Ensures Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address training needs for team members.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or required.
