About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Food and Nutrition Manager the Dietaide prepares and mixes ingredients for salads, desserts, beverages and similar cold dishes for the hospital residents, patients, visitors and facility staff. This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. Mayers Memorial Hospital District reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICT’S sole and absolute discretion.

Requirements

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Maintains regulatory requirements, i.e. mandatory in-services, departmental in-services, attends required staff meeting.
Previous experience in food service, but not required.

Maintains all information as confidential as appropriate, to include payroll, personnel information, and other information obtained during the course of performing job duties that is confidential.
Demonstrates ability to effectively use office machines in the performance of job functions.
Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.
Prepares beverages, salads, desserts and nourishments.
Prepares food according to written and verbal instructions including type, quantity and portions.
Ensures meals are ready at specified times.
Consults with Food and Nutrition Manager and/or Registered Dietitian on modified diets, as necessary.
Mixes salad dressing and sauces.
Prepares tables for catering events according to requests.
Maintains kitchen in a clean, neat and organized manner.
Prepares special diet foods as needed.
Assists on orienting dietary workers in department procedures.
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
Runs cash register in hospital cafeteria.
Observes infection control practices at all times.
Cleans and sanitizes food preparation area after use.
Follows posted cleaning schedule utilizing proper sanitation and cleaning methods.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Attends all meetings as appropriate.
Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.
Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
Push meal carts to and from patient care units.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Lift up to 35 pounds when necessary.
Works in warm temperatures during the summer months.
Works in cold temperatures for short periods of time.
Works in walk-in freezer for short periods of time.
Other duties as assigned.
