About The Position

The Food and Beverage Operations, Assistant Supervisor (FBOAS) is responsible for providing direct program and operational support to all Food Service locations throughout the Akron Zoo along with catering and special events. Able to lead with strong communication skills, both verbal & written, the FBOAS will devote at least 75 percent of his/her/their time in operations during the summer season and during special events, working closely with the team to support and train staff as they prepare food and serve guests. The FBOAS will assist with daily setup and closing of all locations, monitoring supplies at stations; ensuring inventory is received, verified, and rotated using FIFO, verifying cash drawers, setup and breakdown of events, monitoring and educating staff on ways to reduce waste, assisting with monthly inventory, and maintaining health & safety regulations. The FBOAS may be scheduled in positions as required based on the needs of the business and will be required to learn all areas of the operation. This includes bartending, which will require successful completion of TIPS training. The FBOAS will assist with inspecting and restocking vending inventory and equipment as well as the monthly inventory counts of the operation. During the off-season, the FBOAS will work closely with the management team to plan for the upcoming season by updating training materials, deep cleaning locations, and implementing strategies for a successful upcoming season. The position will provide administrative support by assisting with approving payroll, tracking and documenting attendance violations, and ensuring training records are up-to-date and food safety standards upheld. Strong systematic organization abilities to ensure all documents and files, both physical and digital are up to date & easily accessible. This position will assist with hiring staff throughout the year. Experienced in conflict resolution and the ability to adjust communication styles to different audiences when needed to address workplace concerns, the FBOAS has the authority to coach and discipline staff when necessary. Responsible for assigning work, he/she/they will work closely with staff to ensure the Food & Beverage Team’s Leadership Goal to cultivate a collaborative environment where individuals are empowered to make informed decisions, work together strategically, lead with integrity and take accountability while achieving team-specific goals is upheld. The FBOAS will ensure that the Akron Zoo’s goal of providing a positive guest experience to everyone who enters the zoo is met through the quality of the food that is served as well as the excellent customer service provided by the FBOAS and our team. Position works Sunday - Thursday and will be required to work mornings, evenings, weekend and holidays as necessary to support food service operations during special events and facility rentals. The position will fulfil the role of Guest Chief as needed as part of the Incident Command Team, requiring the completion of First-aid/CPR training. This is a full-time, salaried (NON-exempt) position with benefits. The Akron Zoo is an EOE and Drug Free Workplace.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years customer service experience and 1 year leadership experience preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification or the successful completion within first year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (associate or bachelor) in hospitality management or relevant field preferred.
