This role involves analyzing unclassified and classified documents to determine appropriate actions and release procedures in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Privacy Act, E.O. 13526, and applicable CFR and DoD Manuals and Instructions. The analyst will interpret regulations, agency enforcement codes, and organizational policies regarding the release of agency documents upon receipt of an appellate request. A key responsibility is to ensure that released materials do not contain personal identifiers or reveal trade secrets and other information exempted under applicable statutes, by proposing necessary redactions for both internal components and final external release to the requestor. The position also supports the administrative processing of FOIA Appeal Requests, including composing official case correspondence, perfecting requests with requestors, negotiating additional response time, making recommendations on fees and fee waivers, and coordinating with internal OSD offices and Subject Matter Experts for document searches and initial reviews. A strong understanding of document markings and control procedures, as well as the ability to recognize lawfully protected marked and unmarked Nuclear and Intelligence Information, is essential.
