About The Position

FlexTrades is seeking experienced Flux Core Welders/Fabricators for upcoming manufacturing projects across various industries, including vessels, aerospace, medical device manufacturing, assembling forklifts, industrial equipment, HVAC, and large mining equipment manufacturing. All work is performed in indoor production environments. This position involves building large ASME-code pressure vessels and steel tanks in a heavy manufacturing setting. Successful candidates must possess strong fit-up, fabrication, blueprint reading, and assembly experience with large industrial components. The role requires the ability to fit, fabricate, and weld pressure vessel components while adhering to high quality standards and ASME welding procedures. This position is best suited for welders comfortable with code-quality welding on large pressure vessels and steel tanks in a production environment. The contracts are typically 6 or 8 months long, and employees are sent on 3- or 6-month assignments at various manufacturing companies nationwide. Employees have the flexibility to choose how many assignments they take per year and can take time off between contracts.

Requirements

  • Flux Core (FCAW) welding experience required
  • Strong fabrication and fit-up experience required
  • Ability to weld in the vertical uphill position
  • Experience performing multi-pass welds
  • Ability to read blueprints, fabrication drawings, and AWS weld symbols
  • Experience following WPS requirements and welding procedures
  • Experience using fabrication and layout tools including tape measures, squares, levels, punches, and weld gauges
  • Strong attention to detail and workmanship
  • Ability to work safely around large vessel assemblies and heavy components
  • Proficient in Blueprint Reading
  • Proficient in AWS Welding Symbols

Nice To Haves

  • Pressure vessel or ASME Section VIII Division 1 experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fit up, tack, fabricate, grind, clean, and weld large ASME pressure vessels and steel tanks
  • Perform fit-up work with typical gaps averaging 1/8"
  • Weld vessel components including nozzles, manways, repads, vessel heads, footpads, legs, flanges, and couplings
  • Perform Flux Core (FCAW) welding using .045 dual-shield wire with a 90/10 gas mixture
  • Perform primarily vertical uphill welding
  • Weld heavy plate materials
  • Work with both flat and round vessel components
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld callouts, AWS weld symbols, dimensions, and WPS requirements
  • Perform grinding, weld cleanup, and removal of spatter as required
