About The Position

The Sierra Club Florida Chapter is seeking a Florida Green Schools Intern to work with volunteers and staff to further the organization's mission. This internship focuses on stakeholder outreach, engaging younger environmentalists, and supporting the chapter's green-team-lead. The intern will gain experience in database building, coordinating with external organizations, developing scholarship programs, and conducting research on environmental initiatives in Florida schools. This is a new position designed for growth within the organization.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience or a strong interest in writing, environmental justice, working with students, and grassroots environmental action.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite or Microsoft Word and video conferencing.
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Committed to self-growth, continuous learning, openness, and humility.
  • Possesses a constructive approach, can-do attitude, sense of humor, and authentic kindness.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chapter Board Member (green-team-lead) and chapter staff in building a database of Sierra Club Florida members interested in working with students.
  • Coordinate with public and private organizations to expand the program and increase awareness of the Sierra Club.
  • Identify interested Sierra Club Florida Groups and document local schools with relevant programs (e.g., AP Environmental Sciences) for potential collaboration.
  • Help develop a scholarship program for teachers and graduating seniors, including recommending grant opportunities.
  • Keep the Sierra Communications Team and Chapter Development Director informed of activities and successes.
  • Travel to Sierra Club Groups and affiliated organizations statewide to promote activities and recruit new members.
  • Conduct research on how Florida school districts are pursuing environmental goals similar to the Sierra Club's.
  • Assist in planning and executing educational campaigns and fundraising events.
  • Draft and/or edit volunteer correspondence, including thank you letters, newsletter articles, social media outreach, and campaign updates.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Hourly rate of $18/hour
  • Visa sponsorship available for foreign nationals (nonimmigrant and immigrant) based on certain criteria, at the discretion of management and the People Department.
