Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, or employees of Bristol Farms.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts in such a manner to create a win-win situation.
  • Ability to analyze a variety of situations, think through to a solution and implement the solution.

Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the operation of the Floral Department, including operations, planning, directing, managing, and achieving targeted profits.
  • Directly responsible for staff development, cultivating a solid working relationship with staff, and developing positive morale.
  • Lead by example, modeling correct behavior and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all duties of the Floral Designer & Floral Clerk.
  • Use provided tools to ensure the success of the department.
  • Be knowledgeable of flowers, plants, and arrangements, including proper care.
  • Responsible for ordering, receiving, and merchandising department products.
  • Order merchandise or prepare requisitions to replenish merchandise.
  • Price department merchandise using a handheld scanner and verify prices against purchase orders.
  • Process purchase orders for implementation by the required deadline.
  • Maintain high profit margins in accordance with the approved budget and pricing schedule, including sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes, and waste management.
  • Create "bold designs."
  • Ensure proper displaying and selling of department products to customers, advising customers on flower quality, handling methods, and other factors affecting perishable products.
  • Change and/or move displays to keep the Floral Department fresh and appealing.
  • Clean shelves, counters, and tables.
  • Operate a cash register following established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the accurate recording of customer transactions and acceptance of payment.
  • Responsible for accurate balancing of the cash register.
  • Maintain inventory control, focusing on theft, shrinkage, and storage.
  • Ensure low shrink and waste through proper ordering and inventory control.
  • Responsible for inventory control, preparation for inventory, and inventory results.
  • Take customer orders for floral arrangements or any other special orders.
  • Create custom floral arrangements following customer specifications.
  • Transfer merchandise used from other departments and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Ensure custom arrangements are accurately priced according to guidelines.
  • Write schedules fairly and objectively to meet business needs.
  • Control labor results, including overtime, under the supervision of the Store Director.
  • Supervise employees in floral designs, sales work, displays, receiving, price integrity, and taking inventory.
  • Train and coach employees on procedures and tasks for the department.
  • Conduct in-service training for all employees and document all training.
  • Work on creativity and budget for special events.
  • Confer and plan arrangements according to customer requirements based on cost or select appropriate standard design patterns.
  • Train employees on floral design.
  • Ensure compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Adhere to department budget and coordinate sales promotions under the supervision of the Director of Bristol Gardens.
  • Implement and maintain all marketing programs.
  • Train all Floral employees in floral design, suggestive selling, merchandising, and customer service techniques on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate with the Store Director and Director of Bristol Gardens on all department-related issues.
  • Follow safety work standards and report any safety hazards to the Store Director.
  • Conduct accident investigations and complete paperwork in accordance with Cal Osha SAB-198.
  • Serve customers with a smile and willing attitude, establishing relationships to ensure repeat business.
  • Handle customer complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Meet and exceed Bristol Farms standards in design, presentation, customer service, quality, cleanliness, and leadership.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bristol Farms’ policies and applicable laws, including training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
