About The Position

Performs necessary functions to maintain all hard and carpeted flooring surfaces following manufacturer’s recommendations and other prescribed methods. Performs these duties according to an established schedule. This role also involves interior facility lighting maintenance, ceiling tile replacement, spill cleanup (including hazardous and infectious waste), and general maintenance of assigned equipment, materials, and closets. The technician will also participate in facility-wide and departmental in-service training. Occasionally, this role may cover the duties of a Housekeeping Aide, which includes various cleaning functions in assigned areas, waste collection, furniture dusting/washing, bathroom sanitation, spot cleaning, chemical dispensing, cleaning high areas, and performing terminal cleaning procedures for patient rooms, including isolation rooms. The technician must clearly communicate and support the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health and conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Requirements

High school diploma preferred.
Previous floor care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Dry, damp, and wet mops floors.
Mixes & applies cleaning, stripping, waxes, and sealant chemicals according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
Operates electrical floor scrubbing/buffing equipment following safety procedures.
Hand cleans baseboards and other surfaces that may be involved with preparing a hard surface floor for final finishing.
Operates wet/dry vacuum during the process of stripping a floor.
Barricades areas to ensure safety.
Maintains equipment and supplies.
Routinely moves furniture to perform work.
Spot cleans, shampoos, spin bonnets, and extracts carpets per an established schedule.
Mixes & applies chemicals for carpet care.
Operates a variety of carpet cleaning equipment including vacuums, roto buffers, extractors etc.
Cleans upholstery on an as needed basis.
Monitors and replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes throughout the facility, while maintaining cleanliness of light fixtures and lenses.
Responsible for ordering stock lighting as needed.
Monitors and replaces damaged ceiling tiles throughout the facility.
Responsible for ordering stock ceiling tiles as needed.
Cleans up spills (including hazardous and infectious waste) as observed or upon request.
Maintains assigned equipment, materials, and closet in orderly and workable state.
Moves and stores supplies (and other heavy objects) as required.
Reports the need for repair/potential hazards of equipment, furniture, fixtures, and building to the Plant Operations Department and/or Supervisor.
Participates in facility wide as well as departmental in-service training.
Performs cleaning functions in the assigned area following established schedules and using prescribed methods (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Dry or wet mops and vacuums rooms, floors, stairways, and other surfaces (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Collects waste and places it in designated areas or the compactor (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Damp dusts or washes furniture (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Cleans and sanitizes all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls of bathrooms (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Spot cleans walls, windows, and metal surfaces (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Spot cleans carpets as needed (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Dispenses chemicals and dilutes them according to approved procedures (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Cleans fixtures, tops of windows, doorframes, and other high areas using a ladder (also replaces/exchanges/hangs window and cubical curtains) (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares the room for new occupant; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms (when covering Housekeeping Aide duties).
Performs other duties as assigned.
