About The Position

The Floor Nurse - LPN/RN position is a casual role focused on delivering resident-focused care within the full scope of practice of an LPN or RN, in a home-like environment. The role emphasizes respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident, family, and co-worker. This position requires a commitment to person-centered care and adherence to safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse
  • Current membership in good standing with CARNA or CLPNA
  • CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers is required
  • Clear police information check, with the vulnerable sector, dated within the last 6 months
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, concern resolution process, and customer service
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
  • Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures is essential in this position
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds)
  • Ability to work on his/her feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking, lifting, or moving things

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care by assessing resident health needs – recording vital signs, discussing and recording chief health concerns, performing tests, administering injections and medications, dressing changes, immunizations, etc., and obtaining specimens (throat, urine, stool, wound, sputum, other body fluids, etc.), using proper technique and following policies and procedures for labeling.
  • Supervise and evaluate work performance in terms of resident care, staff relations, and efficiency of service, and direct work of healthcare aides based on resident needs and site needs.
  • Place phone calls to pharmacies to order prescriptions; set up referral contacts and ensure the unit is stocked with medications and nursing supplies for all shifts.
  • Thoroughly educate and explain procedures to residents and family members and assist them in coping with illnesses, and aid in identifying methods of improving patient care.
  • Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in clinical practice, attend required in-services and staff meetings, and promote professional growth for self and staff development.
