About The Position

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) is seeking a Floor Manager for its Custodial Service, specifically for the Midnight Shift (12 AM - 8 AM). This role is crucial for maintaining the general upkeep of the Main Facility, including cleaning galleries, offices, supporting special exhibitions, and ongoing construction. The Floor Manager will provide hands-on leadership and supervision to union personnel, emphasizing clear communication and high performance. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience in institutional or commercial cleaning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead unionized staff with professionalism, fairness, and consistency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional cleaning methods, floor care systems, and equipment.
  • Ability to independently supervise cleaning programs.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania).

  • OSHA knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the 12 AM - 8 AM Custodial Shift, including planning, assigning tasks, and supervising daily operations.
  • Provide managerial coverage on weekends for the Buildings Department on a rotating schedule.
  • Conduct routine inspections of galleries, offices, public spaces, and storage areas to ensure Museum cleaning standards are achieved.
  • Supervise and hold bargaining union employees accountable for attendance, safety guidelines, and work quality.
  • Prepare employee documentation, including inspections, counseling, performance evaluations, attendance records, and disciplinary documentation.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to prepare reports, maintain records, analyze operational data, and communicate with management.
  • Coordinate periodic floor care, project work, special exhibitions, and event support.
  • Monitor inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply usage.
  • Train employees in proper cleaning procedures, floor care methods, and safe operation of commercial custodial equipment.
  • Respond to operational issues independently and make sound decisions during overnight operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
