At Northwest Hardwoods (NWH) , you’ll play an important role in keeping our global supply chain moving. As a Floor Lead, you’ll work closely with the lumber yard team to keep daily operations running smoothly, coordinate workflow, and ensure lumber is properly handled, organized, and moved efficiently throughout the facility. You’ll help guide team members, maintain a safe and productive work environment, and keep operations on track to meet daily goals and customer needs. This position is all about leadership, safety, and attention to detail. As a Floor Lead , you’ll help oversee daily lumber yard operations, guide team members, and ensure lumber is safely and efficiently handled, moved, sorted, stacked, and organized. Your ability to keep the team on track, maintain quality standards, and promote a safe and productive work environment will help ensure we continue delivering high-quality lumber to our customers around the world. Requirements

Must be 18 years of age
Available to work Monday – Thursday (10 hour days/30 minute lunch)
Schedule flexibility during holiday weeks
Lumber Yard/Sawmill experience
A natural leader with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team-oriented mindset.
Experienced in guiding, supporting, and motivating team members to keep daily lumber yard operations running smoothly.
A strong communicator who can clearly communicate expectations, provide direction, and work effectively with team members and supervisors.
Comfortable in a hands-on, physically active role and enjoy staying on the move throughout the day.
Able to safely lift, move, stack, sort, and handle lumber and other materials while promoting safe work practices.
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow established procedures, maintain quality standards, and keep workflow on track.
Dependable and reliable, with a strong attendance record and a commitment to being someone the team can count on.
Able to manage competing priorities, coordinate daily tasks, and keep the team focused in a fast-paced lumber yard environment.
Comfortable working independently, making day-to-day decisions, and collaborating with others to meet operational goals.
Willing to take initiative, solve problems, and lead by example while maintaining a safe, clean, and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

Interface with departments daily/weekly to ensure tasks are accomplished and objectives are met
Demonstrate leadership, big picture thinking, accountability, time management and problem-solving skills
Maintain quality of log inventory, rotation, sorting, and the efficiency of log flow necessary to meet demands
Manage the operation, maintenance, and service of yard
Work with Managers and other supervisors to optimize productivity and reduce inefficiencies
Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and orchestrating solutions
Supervise, train, direct, and coordinate work of the department’s crew
Effectively manage crew work time and duties during production, breakdowns, and emergencies
Manage scheduled time off, unexpected absences, and modified duty of crew
Spearhead interviews, selection of new hires and onboarding for floor personnel
Recognize, participate in, and recommend crew commendation, corrective, disciplinary and discharge actions
Manage order processing through selection/pulling order, fabrication and loading while maintaining our high standard of quality control and safety
Prioritize orders and yard/fabrication logistics through a constantly evolving environment
Improve efficiencies and workflows
Foster clear communication
