About The Position

This position is for a 0.6 FTE Floating Resource Nurse who will provide nursing services and school health support across all schools in the district, as assigned by the Director of School Health Services. The nurse will serve as a system-wide resource, facilitate training, assist in policy development, collect health data, and support new nurse training. Responsibilities also include assisting with health screenings, allergy protocols, immunization compliance, direct clinical services, medication management, and health data entry. The candidate must be knowledgeable of Massachusetts school nursing regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts Registration in Nursing
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Certified (or eligible) School Nursing, Pediatric, Emergency Room or Community Health experience preferred
• Healthcare Certification in CPR through the American Heart Association or Red Cross
• Effective interpersonal relations with student, staff, and families
• Knowledgeable of the pertinent regulations governing school nursing practice in Massachusetts, the guidelines and standards of care established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), as applicable to the policies and procedures established by the Lexington Public Schools
• Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community.

Responsibilities

• Providing nursing services and school health support in all the schools, as determined and assigned by the Director of School Health Services
• Serve as a system-wide resource to all nurses and schools in the district.
• Facilitate in-service training/education to nurses, students, staff and families as needed.
• Provide assistance in the development, review and evaluation of school health policies and materials to support the promotion of a healthy school environment.
• Assist in the collection of health data and submission of health reports to MA DPH for school health services.
• Create, implement and monitor training protocol for nurses new to the district.
• Supports the school nurse with medically complex situations, attending meetings as needed
• Assisting with mandatory health screenings
• Implementing food allergy protocols and health policies
• Health services programming
• Immunization compliance
• Provide direct clinical nursing services as needed in school health offices or for field trips/ special school activities
• Perform health data computer entry
• Medication management
• General health information management
