About The Position

Are you a socially conscious, dedicated individual who is committed to building a better future for children, families, and their communities? If so, join us as we support early childhood education programs across the country to create positive outcomes for the children and families served. In this position as a Floater – Extended Day Teacher for a Head Start and/or Early Head Start center, you will work collaboratively with classroom Teachers to ensure the successful operation of classrooms following the regular Head Start/Early Head Start operating day. As a floater, you will support multiple classrooms as needed and help maintain a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. You will work closely with Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and families to implement curriculum and learning experiences that promote positive social interactions, active engagement, and strong developmental outcomes for children of all abilities.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • A passion for supporting young children’s learning and development.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic computer literacy including email, Google Suite tools, and internet navigation.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to manage responsibilities independently.
  • Ability to lift and assist children weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • CDA credential or higher education in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a child-centered learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to support children’s development across all domains.
  • Support Teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences that promote school readiness, including early literacy, language development, numeracy awareness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Use knowledge of child growth and development to support children in a Head Start learning environment.
  • Observe and address challenging behaviors by identifying possible causes, implementing preventive strategies, and teaching children new social and communication skills.
  • Document children’s progress using observations and anecdotal notes to help individualize learning experiences.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children while fostering a safe and healthy classroom environment.
  • Encourage family involvement and help strengthen relationships between children and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, families, and other program staff.
  • Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and program events.
  • Provide classroom support across multiple rooms as needed to maintain program operations.
