About The Position

The Float Phlebotomist will collect and process laboratory specimens in Sunquest 8.1. This PRN/Pool position requires availability on an as-needed basis, with day shift availability from Monday to Friday, 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and Saturday availability. The role involves ensuring accurate venipuncture and capillary punctures, gathering specimens from all age groups, and proficiency in urine drug screen collection. Responsibilities include accurate requisition completion, proper patient identification and specimen processing, correct labeling and preparation of specimens for testing, and verification of billing information. The phlebotomist will also be skilled in collecting PCR nasopharyngeal swabs, performing POCT testing, retrieving, processing, and storing specimens according to protocol, and utilizing Sunquest 8.1 for specimen receipt and decant functions. Maintaining appropriate specimen storage temperatures, preparing batches for transport, and managing order and specimen flow within the Patient Service Center/In-Office Processing are key duties. The role includes assisting in troubleshooting patient draw, order, and specimen issues, operating and maintaining departmental equipment, communicating effectively, conducting inventory checks, replenishing supplies, and assisting in training new staff. Adherence to regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and departmental policies is essential, along with performing other job duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have recent phlebotomy training or experience, with at least 100 venipunctures completed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure venipuncture and capillary punctures align with PSC policy with high accuracy.
  • Gather specimens across all age groups, proficient in urine drug screen collection.
  • Complete requisitions accurately, adhering to Patient Services procedures.
  • Properly handle patient identification and specimen processing.
  • Label and prepare specimens correctly for testing.
  • Verify billing information for accuracy.
