About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Flight Test Technician 3/Flight Test Technician 4 to join their Test and Evaluation Organization with the NASA Sky Range Program. This position will be based out of Edwards AFB, CA. The NASA Sky Range team is seeking an experienced Flight Test Technician to support avionics development, integration, and flight-test operations for the RQ-4 Range Hawk. The technician will work hands-on with aircraft wiring, LRUs, and control-room equipment to ensure mission-critical systems are tested, calibrated, and ready for flight. This role is a 100% on-site position.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of related experience (for Flight Test Technician 3) or 6 years of related experience (for Flight Test Technician 4).
Related experience in one of more of the following but not limited to aircraft electrical systems, structures, composites, aircraft systems, and flightline operations.
Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Secret Clearance or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation.
Must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and working overhead.
Must be able to access small, confined spaces, work in an enclosed environments and elevated platforms.
Must work safely at heights, on ladders, and on aircraft platforms for extended periods.
Ability to work non-standard hours, rotating shifts, and occasional overtime.
The ability to pass a extensive physical, cardio, audio, eye exam, and overall medical qualification to perform the job duties on site.
U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Nice To Haves

Experience leading and training lower-level employees
Experience in aircraft electrical wiring, avionics testing/troubleshooting, and lab support of LRUs
Familiarity with production or test-environment processes (e.g., SOPs, work orders).
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions to fabricate and assemble necessary fixtures and/or components.
Electrical certification or Certified Aircraft Electronics Technician (CAET).
FAA-certified Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) or completed A&P program.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an STEM field.
Training in Aircraft Fabrication & Assembly (AFAB), Avionics Technology, or Non-Destructive Inspection.
Experience with RQ-4 or other large-UAV platforms and associated ground-station equipment.
Prior work with aviation control-room hardware and test-set configuration.

Responsibilities

Test, troubleshooting, removal, installation, modification, and maintenance of aerospace systems including, but not limited to fuel, hydraulics, ECS, flight controls, propulsion, landing gear, CNI, and ground support equipment.
Operate ground equipment, aerospace systems checkout, perform pre and post-use inspections, service fuel, lubrication, cooling, and other requirements as necessary.
Application of materials, appliqués, coatings, decals, primer, and paint.
Read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions to fabricate and assemble necessary fixtures and/or components.
Execute testing in accordance with direction provided by senior technician/engineering staff.
Conducting tests and reporting data in the prescribed format, using predetermined methods, sequences, and setups to inspect or test specific equipment or products.
Willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends as required.
Adhere to all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines and regulations.
Work and communicate over ambient noise.
Work in a variety of work spaces/positions. Work spaces may include but are not limited to small, enclosed spaces, awkward, and elevated spaces. Positions may include bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, ascending/descending ladders, and/or working overhead.
