About The Position

Skydio is seeking a Flight Test Engineer focused on camera and image quality to help ensure its drones deliver high-quality imaging performance across varied environmental and operating conditions. The role combines hardware and software testing, field testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis. The engineer will work with camera systems and drone technology, collaborate with hardware engineers, camera tuning experts, product teams, and flight test engineers, and use flight data and testing tools to improve camera performance and system stability. This is an office-based role requiring five days per week onsite at Skydio headquarters in San Mateo, California.

Requirements

Strong understanding of camera systems and image quality fundamentals, including exposure, color accuracy, and focus control.
Background in software QA or testing, especially related to imaging systems.
Familiarity with mobile app testing on iOS and Android and how mobile apps interface with camera systems.
Excellent communication skills, with a focus on documenting camera performance and test results.
Hands-on experience with cameras in a testing or production environment and willingness to spend significant time outdoors running tests.
FAA Part 107 license certification is required.

Responsibilities

Perform regression tests to ensure camera systems maintain optimal performance after software or hardware updates.
Execute master testing of camera functionalities to validate new software affecting image capture and processing.
Collaborate with the hardware team to refine and optimize camera systems for customer use.
Identify and troubleshoot camera-specific issues, including image quality degradation, exposure control, and focus inconsistencies.
Gather and analyze flight data to provide actionable insights that improve camera system performance and stability.
Work with product teams and flight test engineers to ensure Skydio camera systems are best-in-class.
Document camera performance and test results.
