About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Senior Principal Flight Test Engineer to join their Test and Evaluation organization. This position is located at Edwards AFB and is contingent on program funding. The role involves developing and publishing environmental control system (ECS) related test plans, acceptance test plans, test schedules, and test procedures for developmental testing. The engineer will operate in a flight test control room, provide laboratory and ground support for integration testing, and support/host test planning working groups. They will interface with design and analysis teams to define test configurations and data requirements, review test requirements for completeness, and perform technical analysis of complete systems. Responsibilities also include supporting test card development, readiness reviews, pre/post-test briefings, and conducting data analyses for anomaly identification and resolution. The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, serving as a focal point between maintenance, design engineering, and test site teams (contractor and customer). The individual must be self-motivated, thorough, detailed, able to work independently and within a team, and willing to learn additional engineering disciplines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Integrated Analysis & Data System (IADS) is required. Overtime, odd shifts, and weekend work may occasionally be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Master's degree AND 3 years of related professional/military experience (for Principal Flight Test Engineer).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 8 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Master's degree AND 6 years of related professional/military experience (for Sr. Principal Flight Test Engineer).
  • Ability to transfer and maintain a final adjudicated U.S. government Secret or Top Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Integrated Analysis & Data System (IADS).
  • Must be able to work under only general direction to determine and develop approaches to solutions.
  • Must be able to work both within a team environment and independently.
  • Must be self-motivated, thorough, and detailed.
  • Must be willing to learn additional engineering discipline areas.

  • In-depth knowledge of test experience, to include control room monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and publish environmental control system related detailed test plans, acceptance test plans, test schedules, and test procedures for developmental testing.
  • Operate in a flight test control room.

  • Support test readiness reviews, and pre/post-test briefings.
  • Conduct and contribute to pre and post-test data analyses to support anomaly identification and resolution.
  • Maintain metrics on status of testing and constraints.
  • Serve as a principal subject matter focal point between maintenance, design engineering, and test site team - contractor and customer.
