Principal/Sr Principal Flight Test Engineer-FTO Sub Systems (Effectors-Hyd)
About The Position
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Principal or Senior Principal Flight Test Engineer for its Test and Evaluation organization. The role supports one or more aircraft platforms and is 100% onsite at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The engineer develops and publishes integrated and detailed test plans, schedules, and procedures for developmental testing; provides laboratory support for integration testing; and supports test planning, readiness reviews, and pre- and post-test briefings. The engineer coordinates with test article design and analysis teams to define test configurations and data requirements, evaluates test requirements for completeness, and performs system-level technical analyses. The role also supports test card development with other engineering disciplines and test operations personnel, provides mission control room support, and makes real-time decisions concerning test safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. The engineer contributes to pre- and post-test data analysis, anomaly identification and resolution, and tracking test status and constraints. The position requires strong written and oral communication skills. The engineer may serve as a principal subject matter liaison among maintenance, design engineering, and test-site contractor and customer teams. The successful candidate works under general direction, both independently and collaboratively, and is self-motivated, thorough, and willing to learn additional engineering disciplines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Integrated Analysis & Data System (IADS) is required. Overtime, unusual shifts, and weekend work may occasionally be required. The role requires a DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access. Relocation assistance may be available, and travel is approximately 25%.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field.
- For Principal level: at least 5 years of applicable experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 3 years with a STEM master’s degree.
- For Senior Principal level: at least 9 years of applicable experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 7 years with a STEM master’s degree.
- DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance and ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Integrated Analysis & Data System (IADS).
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work under general direction, independently and in a team, with thoroughness, self-motivation, and willingness to learn additional engineering disciplines.
- Ability to work overtime, unusual shifts, and weekends occasionally.
Nice To Haves
- In-depth knowledge of or test experience, including control room monitoring.
- Top Secret clearance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and publish integrated test plans, detailed test plans, test schedules, and test procedures for developmental testing.
- Provide laboratory support for integration testing.
- Support and host test planning working groups.

- Review and evaluate test requirements to ensure the test program is complete.
- Perform technical analyses of complete systems and prepare comprehensive system-level evaluations.

- Provide mission control room support and make real-time decisions regarding safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Conduct or contribute to pre- and post-test data analyses to identify and resolve anomalies.

- Serve as a principal subject matter liaison among maintenance, design engineering, and test-site contractor and customer teams.
