About The Position

AMA is in need of a skilled and motivated LabVIEW Flight Software/Computer Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing robust applications using National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW, with a strong focus on FPGA and Real-Time programming for test, measurement, and data acquisition systems. This role involves the full lifecycle of system development from requirements formulation through testing and deployment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with LabVIEW application development (professional or academic).
  • Proficiency in data acquisition (DAQ) concepts: analog/digital I/O, signal conditioning, timing, and synchronization.
  • Experience with NI hardware platforms (e.g., DAQmx, CompactRIO, PXI, myRIO).
  • Familiarity with software development best practices: version control, modular design, code documentation.
  • Demonstrates proactive problem-solving abilities, leads the problem-solving process, and works independently to identify and implement solutions.
  • Hands-on experience building and/or testing electronic systems.
  • Proficiency using bench instruments (oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • BS degree or higher in Computer or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Mid-level (5-10 years) Engineer (somebody who is willing to learn and go above and beyond. Lots of energy and dedication is required).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LabVIEW FPGA development, including: Timing constraints and resource management, FPGA VI design and optimization, Host-to-FPGA communication (DMA FIFOs, interrupts)
  • Experience with LabVIEW Real-Time development, including: Deterministic loop structures and timing, Deployment and configuration of RT targets, Fault and error handling
  • Experience with GUI development focused on optimizing control and operation of integrated data acquisition systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols: GPIB, RS-232/485, Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages complementary to LabVIEW (Python, C/C++, MATLAB)
  • Familiarity with signal processing concepts (FFT, filtering, spectral analysis)

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain LabVIEW-based applications for test, measurement, and data acquisition systems
  • Develop and optimize code for LabVIEW FPGA targets, timing logic, and hardware interfacing
  • Develop and deploy applications on LabVIEW Real-Time targets (e.g., NI CompactRIO, PXI Real-Time controllers)
  • Formulate test system requirements and translate them into functional software architectures
  • Integrate hardware and software components into complete test and data acquisition solutions
  • Perform integration, and system-level testing to validate performance and functionality
  • Deploy and maintain fielded systems, including troubleshooting and performance optimization
  • Develop and maintain clear and thorough technical documentation, including design documents, test procedures, and user guides
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders to define and meet system requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews

Benefits

  • paid personal and federally recognized holiday leave
  • salary deferrals into a 401(k)-matching plan with immediate vesting
  • tuition reimbursement
  • short/long term disability plans
