About The Position

Joby Aviation’s Flight Research team is seeking a Test Pilot to operate research and development crewed and uncrewed aircraft platforms, primarily supporting the Cessna Caravan program. The role carries pilot-in-command duties during developmental and operational flight testing, both aboard aircraft and remotely, depending on the platform and program phase. The Test Pilot will contribute to the full range of test pilot activities and support engineering development in a small, fast-moving team. The position is based in Concord, California, with less than 25% travel, including occasional deployed testing and participation in military exercises. The role requires the ability to work extended hours and travel domestically and internationally. Candidates must meet U.S. export-control requirements and qualify as a “U.S. Person” under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15.

Requirements

FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate.
Instrument Airplane rating.
At least 750 hours of pilot-in-command flight time, including 100 hours of turbine time.
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, preferably Engineering.
At least 5 years of experience in aviation operations.
At least 3 years of experience as a test pilot.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability and willingness to work extended hours and travel as required, including domestically and internationally for business.
Proficient ability to read and speak English.
Must qualify as a “U.S. Person” under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 to meet U.S. export-control compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

SETP-recognized Test Pilot School graduate.
FAA-certified flight instructor.
Leadership experience in a flight test organization.
C-208 experience.
Experience in highly automated aircraft.
Experience as an operator or pilot of UAS systems.

Responsibilities

Serve as airborne or remote pilot in command for various research and development aircraft platforms, depending on the program phase.
Uphold standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a strong safety culture.
Create test plans, test cards, and reports.
Conduct data analysis.
Collaborate with crewmembers in preparation for, execution of, and post-test activities.
Provide detailed feedback and recommendations for system improvements.
Participate in engineering design activities, particularly those involving human interfaces and airspace integration.
