About The Position

The Safety Management System (SMS) Analyst supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SMS at Intermountain Flight & Ambulance Services. This role is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting safety data, supporting hazard identification and risk management processes, and ensuring compliance with FAA, CAMTS, and organizational safety requirements. The SMS Analyst works closely with safety managers, investigators, and operational leaders to drive data-driven safety improvements and foster a proactive safety culture.

Requirements

  • Experience in safety, quality, data analysis, or related fields in aviation, medical transport, or healthcare.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, SMS software).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, set realistic goals, and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, aviation, healthcare, data analytics, or related fields.
  • Previous experience with SMS or safety data analysis in aviation or medical transport.
  • Certification in safety, auditing, or data analytics (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Six Sigma).
  • Knowledge of helicopter air ambulance operations (14 CFR Part 135 Subpart L).
  • Knowledge of CAMTS and other applicable medical transport standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, manages, and analyzes safety data from multiple sources (e.g., safety reports, audits, FOQA, ASAP, LOSA, IEP).
  • Supports hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation processes in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5 and organizational SMS procedures.
  • Prepares regular and ad hoc safety performance reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership, safety committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitors safety performance indicators (SPIs) and trends, identify emerging risks, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Assists with the investigation of safety events, including data gathering, root cause analysis, and documentation of findings.
  • Maintains SMS documentation, including risk registers, safety action tracking, and compliance records.
  • Supports SMS audits, evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stays current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and data analysis tools relevant to SMS.
