About The Position

GBSI is seeking an Information Technology (IT) professional for the role of System Safety Engineer/Analyst in Huntsville, AL to provide support the SHIELD Project Office. The System Safety Engineer/Analyst will directly work with SHIELD Directors and Product Managers to ensure system safety through rigorous engineering methods and technical expertise. The ideal candidate will support multidisciplinary Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to develop solutions that support developmental, test, and operational goals. The professional in this position is expected to be self-motivated, possessing strong written and verbal communications skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university is required, with at least sixteen (16) years' experience; OR Master's degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university, with at least fourteen (14) years' experience is preferred
  • DoD-issued Secret Security Clearance is required at start
  • Experience with software development processes for Flight-Critical and Safety-Critical software is required
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E and/or similar safety standards is required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with software development/lifecycle IEEE 12207, MIL-STD-498 is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports system safety engineering activities across all phases of missile system development, integration, test, production,, and fielding
  • Performs and documents hazard analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)
  • Ensures compliance with MIL-STD-882E and other applicable DoD and Army safety standards
  • Develops and maintains Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Safety Verification Plans, and Risk Acceptance documentation
  • Collaborates with design, test, and integration teams to embed safety requirements into system architecture and operational concepts
  • Supports Safety Release processes for test events, including live-fire and flight testing
  • Interfaces with Army safety boards, review panels, and Joint Weapon Safety Working Groups
  • Leads root cause analysis and corrective action planning for safety-related incidents or anomalies
  • Up to 15% travel is expected in this role.
