About The Position

As a Flex Teacher at Phalen Leadership Academies, you will work with each teacher of record to help scholars master the academic and social skills necessary to succeed. You will assist in setting ambitious student achievement goals and hold scholars accountable for meeting them. You are also expected to become the teacher of record if a teacher vacancy becomes available. PLA teachers bring creativity and rigor to classrooms, support an improved learning experience, and foster a caring environment that nurtures the success of the school community. The position is at Higher Institute of Arts and Technology (HIAT), a charter school in Merrillville, Indiana, serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade and offering education in arts and technology. Key deliverables include having all scholars meet projected growth goals in ELA and math; achieving 85% scholar satisfaction on classroom surveys; having 90% of scholars persist through the academic year; maintaining 95% average daily scholar attendance; and achieving 1.5 years of growth for each scholar performing below grade level. Phalen Leadership Academies is an education nonprofit that operates turnaround schools and charter school start-ups, and offers summer learning, reading and math intervention, and workforce development programs. The organization describes these programs as providing expanded opportunities for staff, including career advancement and expanded income opportunities.

Requirements

Passion for working with students and families in underserved communities.
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with appropriate endorsements if applicable.
Valid state teacher license or enrollment in a credentialing program.
Effective pedagogical skills driven by standards and data-driven assessment.
Experience tracking and using data to drive instruction.
