About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the FLEX (Flexible Learning Experience) program Lead Teacher provides instructional leadership and personalized support for students assigned to the FLEX program. The Lead Teacher creates a structured, supportive, and relationship-centered learning environment focused on academic achievement, attendance improvement, behavioral growth, and successful student transitions back to the home school setting. The teacher collaborates with students, families, school administrators, counselors, and support personnel to remove barriers to student success while promoting positive student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Valid South Carolina secondary teaching certification in any content area
  • Experience working with at-risk students, alternative education settings, or behavior intervention programs preferred
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of MTSS, restorative practices, differentiated instruction, and trauma-informed practices
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families, school personnel, and community stakeholders
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and student behavior supports
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to manage multiple student plans, records, and responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Knowledge and effective use of instructional technology and online learning platforms
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations

Nice To Haves

  • Special Education certification preferred, not required
  • Experience using APEX, Schoology, PowerSchool, and other instructional technology platforms
  • Experience supporting students with attendance, behavioral, academic, and social-emotional needs

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate individualized, standards-based instruction for students in grades 6–12 enrolled in the FLEX program.
  • Manage and monitor student coursework through APEX, Schoology, district instructional platforms, and direct communication with home school teachers.
  • Provide instructional support and interventions to help students achieve academic success and meet graduation requirements.
  • Develop and monitor personalized student goals related to academics, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional growth.
  • Support students in developing organizational skills, self-management, and responsible decision-making.
  • Build positive relationships with students through mentorship, encouragement, advocacy, and consistent communication.
  • Participate in student intake, progress monitoring, transition, and reentry meetings.
  • Monitor student attendance and maintain accurate records using PowerSchool and district systems.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Coordinate accommodations and supports for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, health plans, or individualized student needs.
  • Assist students in developing strategies to improve attendance, behavior, and academic engagement.
  • Support successful student transitions back to the home school environment or to other placements as determined by the student support team.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships with families to reinforce student goals and success plans.
  • Provide bi-weekly progress monitoring updates to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with district personnel and community agencies when appropriate to support student needs.
  • Foster a safe, structured, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
  • Reinforce district expectations, school rules, and student code of conduct policies.
  • Model professionalism, positive relationship-building, and restorative practices.
  • Promote student accountability, engagement, and personal growth.
  • Support a culture of care, belonging, dignity, and respect for all students.
