About The Position

The Fleet & Tooling Director is responsible for managing the acquisition, maintenance, utilization, and disposition of fleet equipment and third party rentals. The role functions to continuously improve business operations through the procurement of tooling equipment and fleet services for construction projects and regional offices. The positions ensures reliability of construction equipment to reduce equipment down time and manages overall fleet and tooling capital expenditure strategy. It is expected to oversee and retain a staff to provide assistance with processes and procedures relative to the obtainment of equipment, tooling and fleet services.

Requirements

  • 10 years' experience in fleet operations, construction equipment management, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of managing staff to comply with the applicable safety manuals and BV safety and health program and policies.
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships and develops a high level of trust and credibility with key clients and project teams.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA/Graduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM).
  • OSHA, risk management, or operations management training.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial drivers, procurement & contract management, and/or fleet & equipment logistics.
  • Proven ability to communicate with and lead a diverse workforce, including field professionals and highly technical SMEs.
  • Strong ability to proactively identify and prioritize performance issues related to business results, projects, and people.
  • Working knowledge of internal construction strengths and opportunities to inform execution strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, solicits, negotiates, awards and administers timely contracts for procurement of construction equipment ensuring alignment to the capital and operating budget.
  • Manages, negotiates, awards the national agreements for services and 3rd Party rental equipment.
  • Manages the capital and operating budget for maintenance and purchase of equipment.
  • Ensures proactive maintenance, utilization and disposition of equipment to provide optimal usage.
  • Provides return on investment (ROI) analysis for decision to purchase or rent equipment.
  • Reviews contracts for completeness and accuracy and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Ensures purchase and appropriate inventorying of all warehouse tools.
  • Provides supervision, training development, and performance management of direct reports.
  • Identifies and assesses improvement opportunities and champion continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assess and support the change management effect associated with the implementation of process improvements and procedure development.
  • Support, encourage and facilitate staff to engage in continuous improvement activities.
  • Provides management of fleet services through the purchase, distribution, maintenance, and disposal of obsolete vehicles from the fleet.
  • Determines the appropriate allocation of equipment utilized on projects.
  • Manages tool tracking, procurement, and expenditure control as aspects of overall tooling strategy.
  • Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.
