About The Position

The Town of Paradise Valley is looking for a skilled and dependable Fleet Technician to join their team. This role is critical in ensuring the Town's vehicles and equipment run safely and smoothly, supporting daily operations and the Town's mission to provide high-quality services. The Fleet Technician will inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, perform preventative maintenance, coordinate fleet services, purchase parts, maintain computerized records, and make recommendations for vehicle and equipment replacement.

Requirements

  • A valid class D Arizona driver's license.
  • Fleet Technician 1: A high school diploma or GED. 2 years full-time vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and repair; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic may substitute for two years of the required experience.
  • Fleet Technician 2: A high school diploma or GED. 3 years full-time vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and repair; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic may substitute for two years of the required experience.
  • Fleet Technician 2: 3 of the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications: A1 – Engine Repair, A2 – Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, A3 – Manual Drive Train & Axles, A4 – Suspension & Steering, A5 – Brakes, A6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems, A7 – Heating & Air Conditioning, A8 – Engine Performance, A9 – Light Vehicle Diesel Engines.
  • Fleet Technician 3: A high school diploma or GED. 5 years full-time vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and repair; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic may substitute for two years of the required experience.
  • Fleet Technician 3: 5 of the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications: A1 – Engine Repair, A2 – Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, A3 – Manual Drive Train & Axles, A4 – Suspension & Steering, A5 – Brakes, A6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems, A7 – Heating & Air Conditioning, A8 – Engine Performance, A9 – Light Vehicle Diesel Engines.
  • Must pass a background investigation which may include employment, education, driving, and criminal history checks.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs/authorizes warranty repairs of vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance services on all Town vehicles and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, tuning engines, replacing clutches, lights, electrical components, brakes, suspension components, tires, and other repairs as needed.
  • Coordinates fleet services with other Town departments.
  • Locates and purchases parts needed for maintenance and repairs; calls parts vendor and orders needed parts.
  • Maintains computerized fleet records (RTA) and completes activity and inventory reports.
  • Makes technical recommendations regarding vehicle and equipment replacement.
  • Analyzes replacement and equipment criteria and requests and assists in preparing specifications for new vehicles and equipment, and disposal of the vehicles.
