About The Position

Miami Cerebral Palsy has an immediate need to hire a Fleet Technician. The Fleet Technician role will focus on administrative, logistical, and coordination duties rather than hands-on maintenance. The technician will assist in ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the fleet by managing documentation, coordinating schedules, and supporting compliance efforts. The focus is on inspection, documentation, compliance, and coordination to ensure vehicles remain in serviceable condition while minimizing downtime.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • General knowledge of vehicles, preventive maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to motor vehicle licensing and regulation.
  • Supervisory ability, documentation orientation and valid class D driving license.
  • A minimum of 3 years driving experience with an excellent and clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with DOT Regulations.
  • Ability to load individuals in wheelchairs onto MCPRS vans and assist staff with individuals served as necessary to include implementation of behavior modification programs when applicable.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Strong customer service, communication skills and leadership abilities including verbal and written.
  • Reliable transportation with appropriate license and insurance coverage for driver.
  • Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Prefer ability to troubleshoot/detect vehicle mechanical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles to minimize downtime and extend vehicle life.
  • Keep detailed maintenance logs and repair records.
  • Able to detect troubleshooting and takes timely initiative to follow up problems or potential problems.
  • Keep updated information on vehicle records and coordinates vehicle scheduling for inspections, audits, and scheduled activities.
  • Responsible for registration renewals, and insurance updating records.
  • Ensures that applicable copies of insurance, registration, etc., is maintained in all vehicles at all times.
  • Ensures all vehicles meet local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards.
  • Integrates cleaning of fleet vans into maintenance checklist to minimize downtime.
  • Keep updated information on vehicle records such as vehicle inspections and checklists.
  • Review and investigate concerns or complaints as they relate to the transportation department and submit corrective action to Director of Physical Plan Operations.
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on the job training programs.
  • Monitors new staff on defensive driving techniques, vehicle equipment, transportation guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Inspects to ensure proper use and maintenance of assigned vehicles.
  • Follows formal requisition system for addressing repairs.
  • Support driver training and safety programs by preparing materials and coordinating sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies, including vehicle inspections and safety standards.
  • Implements safety programs, monitor accidents reports, and reduce operational risks.
  • Ensure vehicles and drivers operate safely to protect employees and individuals supported.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for specialized repairs and procurement of parts.
  • Follows through on any related fleet accidents and or incidents.
  • Monitors drivers performance, ensures adherence to safety protocols and provides training when necessary.
  • Also functions as back-up to agency’s transportation training as part of the new hire training program.
  • Handles unforeseen events such as breakdowns, accidents, or failed inspections to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
