About The Position

This role assists Fleet Technician Journeyman and Fleet Technicians in maintaining safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles. The primary focus is on learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as diagnosing and repairing issues to prevent breakdowns, reduce downtime, and improve overall fleet reliability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or Equivalent
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training (2-year school)
  • Current and Valid Driver's License
  • Basic Knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and Components
  • Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Basic knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
  • Physical demands to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl
  • Vision abilities to include Close & Distance vision, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

  • Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under guidance on vehicles and equipment (Tractors, Trailers, Convertor Dollies, Lift Gates, Light Duty Vehicles) to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency, including FAI/CVI (Annual) Inspections.
  • Learn to perform maintenance repairs on all vehicles under guidance, such as inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions, and road-call repairs, including addressing Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) write-ups, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing repairs to various vehicle systems (engines, transmissions, fuel, brakes, HVAC, liftgates, etc.).
  • Document all work performed on the work order (SAP) using complaint, cause, and correction format.
  • Learn and develop efficiency in all maintenance related to Sysco computer programs.
  • Determine if a piece of equipment is roadworthy and meets DOT regulations before releasing it for operational use, prioritizing safety over potential additional expenses.
  • Collaborate with management to create a prioritized work schedule for all fleet equipment, considering operational needs and PM compliance to strategically allocate resources.
